Enough Pain to Go Around

On a spring day in late April 1978, a small, unincorporated community in West Virginia became the center of the world’s attention when a cooling tower at a power plant partially collapsed, killing fifty-one men.

To this day, the tragedy remains the deadliest construction accident in U.S. history. The pain of that catastrophe tore at the very fabric of one of the state’s least populated counties, and there was Enough Pain to Go Around.
